A new process to elect the Dean of the Lincoln Academy of Learning and Teaching (LALT) has been agreed by Academic Board for 2020.

The Dean role is a unique and exciting position to help influence and evolve teaching at Lincoln. Previous projects led by the Dean include rejuvenating Personal Tutoring (led by Dr Garry Wilson) and ADAPT online teaching training and Student Experience Panels led by Jasper Shotts (our residing Dean). 

The Dean of LALT represents the teaching community at the University, and is elected based on their manifesto and aims during their tenure. The role is fully supported by a team of project experts to allow the Dean to remain a strategic influence. 

In light of Covid, a new election process will take place to determine our next Dean. A revised job description has been created. The post is open to experienced teachers of all grades that meet the job description.

New Process to select the Dean:

1. Candidates will be asked to write a 250-word manifesto and create a three-minute video to be used for their election campaign. Guidelines will be sent to all candidates.

2. All campaign materials will be placed on an online environment to be shared with the LALT electorate from mid-October. The manifestos on the website will be randomly generated for each site visit allowing no pre-determined hierarchical order of candidates. 

3. An electronic vote will take place via Academic Board through Secretariat in mid-October. The candidates will need to reach a threshold of votes from the electorate to qualify for the next stage. All members of the LALT community (academic staff and professional services staff who teach) are eligible to vote once and will receive an email from Academic Board nearer the time. 

4. Candidates who meet the threshold will go through an interview process chaired by DVC Professor Liz Mossop, and including a College Director of Education, an Academic Board representative, a LALT community member (such as a Programme Leader) and a student panel member. 

5. The Dean will then be selected by interview. This will take place in mid-November.
