The University of Lincoln is a partner in an Interreg-funded project, SALFAR, which seeks to develop the market potential of salt-tolerant agriculture in the North Sea Region of Europe.  Lincoln School of Geography and the Lincoln Economics and Finance Research Group are together leading a work package to carry out a baseline study assessing the economic risks of coastal flooding and soil salinization across the North Sea Region. We are therefore seeking a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to assess the economic risks related to future scenarios with increased coastal flooding and salinization, linked to climate change.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in economic modelling with the ability to develop models to assess economic responses to climate-related shocks including flooding at local and regional scales.  He/she should also have experience of using GIS data and/or remote sensing imagery.  The candidate will be expected to liaise with partners across Europe to build an economic dataset for the coastal regions of the North Sea Region.  Aligning this data with GIS data illustrating the extent of agricultural land that is at risk of flooding, based on different climate projections, the researcher will develop scenarios illustrating the direct costs to agriculture as well as the indirect costs to the wider agri-food economy in North Sea Region countries.

The project requires the application of economic modelling frameworks such as the computable general equilibrium (CGE) or CAPRI modelling system. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of applied economic modelling at doctoral/post-doctoral level.  Where appropriate, specific training will be provided to enhance the skills of an exceptional candidate to meet the full requirements of the project.

The candidate will be encouraged to lead on academic publications from this study, to present findings at international conferences and workshops, to explore opportunities to extend the geographical reach of the analysis and to assist in the preparation of future grant proposals to extend this, and related, lines of research.
