The University of Lincoln’s Joseph Banks Laboratories houses new research and training facilities for the Schools of Chemistry, Pharmacy, Life Sciences and Geography. These are complement by teaching laboratory facilities in the well-equipped and extensively enhanced Janet Lane-Claypon Building. The JBL Schools Technical Team provide laboratory teaching and research support across these buildings for the students and staff as well as for the commercial facilities offered by JBL Science.

We currently have a vacancy for a Technician Assistant in Chemistry / Pharmacy to support teaching and research in these laboratories. The role is primarily based in the Janet Lane-Claypon Building on the Brayford campus where you will be part of a team of 5 technicians supporting practicals in the newly refurbished chemistry labs. The job is very varied and involves the preparation of labs for a range of subjects including synthetic and analytical chemistry, pharmacy and forensic chemistry; helping the academics to run practical classes by means of demonstrations; assisting students in labs and project work if required and clearing up afterwards. Technical support for research and commercial activities is also required in the nearby Joseph Banks Laboratories that house our well-equipped research laboratories.

A higher qualification (HNC or degree) in a scientific subject and/or experience of working in a pharmacy / chemistry laboratory environment would be an advantage. Full training in the use of the relevant instrumentation and how to be an effective teaching technician will be provide. You will need to be flexible in the hours and locations worked and you will be part of a larger team of 18 technicians, supporting colleagues in other areas where required.
