This is a 0.95FTE 14-month position, on the Teaching, Scholarship and Professional Practice (TSPP) pathway, offering employment from 1 October 2026. 

You will be expected to supervise undergraduate dissertations on a variety of Classical Studies topics, act as Personal Academic Tutor, and represent the Classical Studies programme at Open and Offer Holder Days. You will develop and deliver undergraduate lectures, seminars, and workshops in a variety of Classical Studies topics, including the following areas: Roman art and archaeology of daily life, ritual and religion, and power and politics; introductory sessions on the archaeology of prehistory and the Roman period in Britain and the Mediterranean; epigraphy; the archaeology and heritage of Roman Lincoln; and digital methods in classical studies and landscape archaeology. The Classical Studies programme has recently been revalidated for the launch of a new suite of modules in 26/27, although scheduled teaching remains subject to change in line with internal processes.

The School of Humanities and Heritage has a dynamic and collaborative research culture. As part of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and the Humanities, the school offers well-established programmes in English, History and Conservation and a range of newer programmes in Modern History, Philosophy, and Classical Studies (established in 2018). We take teaching, research, and student experience very seriously. In the last REF 65 per cent of our research publications were rated world-leading (four star) – placing us first in the UK for the ratio of four-star outputs out of 80 institutions submitting in this Unit of Assessment. We are looking for someone who is able to teach in a variety of practical and academic areas. There will be some flexibility based on the successful candidate’s specialism, but you should be confident in teaching intermediate to advanced music theory; arranging music for small instrumental groups, including score and part preparation; leading classical instrumental groups; and teaching across diverse creative and performance traditions.

Teaching may include contribution to contextual and critical modules in music studies / musicology: your research specialism will be reflected in the teaching you provide in these modules. You may also contribute to multi-programme ‘creative arts’ modules, such as the first-year ‘Exploring 1: The Creative Arts’ module. You will be expected to lead a variety of undergraduate modules and contribute to supervision of student projects.
